New hire onboarding/UCPath enhancements

November 17, 2023

Editors note: The following represents news the BRS Regional Directors/HR Teams will begin sharing this month with their campus clients.

o--------------------o-----------------------o

Dear campus departments and key contacts,

I/we am writing today to share some good news that will help expedite the onboarding time frame for new Berkeley employees and alleviate a pain point we have been striving to improve for several years.

What is the news?

This is a new pilot project in UCPath, for our regional HR team(s) to have one individual with the ability to create a new hire template in UCPath directly (for new employees or Contingent Workers (CWRs) with no prior UC affiliation only); versus sending it to the UCPath Center for entry/approval.

What does this mean for you?

This may reduce the overall onboarding time frame for this population by as much as 1-3 business days which means these new-to-UC employees:

  • May receive their Employee ID Numbers (EID) much quicker.

  • May be able to begin working sooner.

This enhancement is part of a multi-phased Direct Entry Project our Berkeley UCPath Operations Team is working on collaboratively with Berkeley Regional Services and the UCPath Center. Future phases may allow direct hiring or data changes for current/previous employees.

Other UCPath enhancements in the works

More details about all the upcoming enhancements these teams are working on can be found on the Berkeley UCPath Upcoming Key Projects web pages.

Here are some highlights:

  • Salary Cost Transfer Tool (November 2023)will enhance the process, address existing issues, and improve data accuracy enhancements for transactional users.

  • Pronouns and Gender Identities in UCPath Project (July 2024) will capture gender identity, sexual orientation, and pronouns in the UCPath system to align with the Gender Recognition and Lived Name Policy.

Please feel free to reach out to your regional Onboarding Teams if you have questions about the new hire template/processes or any of the other upcoming projects. I am happy to answer any additional questions you may have regarding the other UCPath enhancements outlined above.

Kind regards,

[Regional Director/designee]
